DRIFTER

by Janine Infante Bosco

The first book in the latest series by Janine Infante Bosco, I was eagerly anticipating my time with the characters, I have found an affinity with the way this author writes, it is compelling and I have become a firm fan.

I sometimes believe ( deluded I know!) that I know what is going to happen, that I can guess or at least surmise why people are the way they are but when the details are laid bare before me in black and white and albeit as a work of fiction, I realise that I may not have everything pegged just the way I thought because when the author walked me through the past, through the things that Stryker has not only seen and done but also experienced, I realised that I didn’t know him at all, he was a figment, a ghost and in some respects I think that was he needed to be.

Life after being discharged for the Marines has taken Stryker to places and into situations that he perhaps hoped he might never see but in the book we get to understand not only what he has done but why? I don’t want to give too much away here because I think you will enjoy the time you get to spend with the enigmatic man but let’s just say he and his associates are far from straight forward.

But there is a glimmer when Gina enters the picture, a normality that may or may not be entirely clear. She is almost as obtuse as Stryker is and in some respects equally as reluctant to share details about who she is and what she does but they strike an unconventional friendship and that made my heart happy, although at times is found some of their dialogue heart breaking, especially their 5 truths about each other, gutting!

I liked Gina, in as much as I liked the way she was with and for Stryker, she cared and that meant more than I think she was fully aware of. She was quick on the uptake and took in the smallest of details when it came to Striker and his circumstances, although how on earth she managed to pay attention to anything when this sexy as sin man with a filthy mouth but also a proclivity for saying just the right thing to knock ever last ounce of sense from her was around, I will never know….one uttering of “Pretty girl” and I was putty in his hands!

Gina was keen to help but without being overbearing…but would Stryker see it that way? Would he allow this special woman into his life? They tackled some tough topics but I commend the author for that, it wasn’t easy to read at times, so I can only imagine what it would have been like to write.

There were elements of the book that had me skidding to a halt, there were events that will leave you with no option but to skip back through the chapters…you know those bits in a book when you finish the sentence and can’t help but ask yourself… WTF and dive in for a re-read just to make sure you got it right the first time!

Yep this has more than one of those!!!

With his club, her brother and their connection this has so much going on that you will be totally captivated…and counting the days to the next book!
