Forsaken by Rachel Madbury

A new author to the field and if this is anything to go by she may well be on the scene for a while.

Forsaken is the story of Alex and Graciella and it is far from an ordinary romance. This pair have enough going on to fill not just one but a library full of books – and I hope the author has a lot more up her sleeve because by the time I had read the last word, I was far from ready to say goodbye.

The book takes hold very early on and it is relentless, there are so many twists and turns that keeping it all in order is not always an easy task, but it made me hungry for more, I needed to carefully read what was going to happen next but I was determined not to skim through – they had their claws into me and nothing but complete attention was going to suffice.

The ebb and flow of the book, was more like a hike in the Himalayas, up on minute, absolutely positive I knew what was happening and feeling smug and then bam- hurtling down the side of the cliff that the author had just launched me off – Rachel you are a cruel mistress.

The story does take a look at what I would hasten to describe as some more sensitive situations but it is not done for any form of gratuitous sensationalism, I thought the author handled very delicate topics with care and consideration.

But overall how would I sum the book up, well that is easy it was super – I am looking forward to the next book and to get a bit more from both Alex and Graciella, they have a way to go yet but it is going to be so much fun being watching them as they go.

Cleverly constructed and sensitively written this is a book that you will find hard to put down and even harder to put into words.
