The Day He Came Back

by Penelope Ward

I’m a huge fan of Ms. Ward but I can’t say that I am a massive fan of this her latest work.

Whilst I can appreciate the story as a piece of work, and I didn’t hate it, I didn’t feel as if it was everything that I have come to expect, it just didn’t seem to have the capacity to completely hold my attention all the time.

I found the feel of the book was a little too proper at times, the story was almost painfully teased from each page.

And there were times when I couldn’t help but feel that I was grasping at straws, hoping that they would find a way to give their second chance the opportunity it was fighting so hard to find. There were also other opportunities where I could almost feel as if I was drifting towards ambivalence to their situation and that was never going to be a good sign.

I like the fact that the author was prepared to give them the chance to put things right but there just wasn’t enough going on for me. I felt as if I was missing more than I was getting from the page and I was tempted to almost fill in the blanks, which threw me completely.

Whilst I can hold my hands up and say that this is absolutely not my favourite work from the author, that doesn’t mean that I wouldn’t recommend it, we are all different and the opinion I have expressed is only that…an opinion. I would implore you to read it for yourself and form your own opinion.
