Inked Hearts

A fabulous read by an author that up until now was completely unknown to me but that I now have highlighted as a must read. The quality of this work was superb.

At the tender age of 28, Avery Johannas finds herself in a position that she had never anticipated, having discovered the fact that her husband was unfaithful, she is now divorced and trying desperately to put purpose and meaning back into her life. The events of the divorce have played havoc with her self-esteem but she can’t live her life in the past, she has to move on and I got the impression that she was ready to take that second chance at life but she had her own idea of what she wanted and how she was going to get it but life wasn’t necessarily going to dance to her tune, fate had other ideas, as did her new roommate Jesse because he might be just the guy to get her to drop her determination that her life or at least the romantic section of it is a man free zone from now on!

Jesse, was a colourful character, a kind man who saw and felt more that would have ever imagined. But this tattooed guy had, had a past that meant he was able to not only draw from in order to help and understand where Avery was coming from but it also meant that he could empathise.

Avery had changed everything in her life following her divorce, she had relocated, given up her job and all that on top of the fact that she had lost the man she thought loved her unconditionally and that betrayal had really dented her trust in men but Jesse was sure that the two of them could overcome her darkness and that he would be able to put the smile back on her face and the light back into a life that she seemed shrouded by.

But please don’t think that Avery was a dull, lonely woman she wasn’t, she was a tough woman both inside and out, she had a sharp tongue and when on her game she was more than a match for Jesse, but could this quirky friendship find its feet and become so much more?

Together they took a journey that wasn’t as smooth and I would have wanted but it was what they needed and that made it ok in my world. I loved the connection between the two of them, the conversation was not only totally realistic, it was thoroughly engaging. As the conversation flowed, so did the story, it had an easy pace to it, one that meant it was all too easy for time to slip through my fingers.

An eclectic, magnificent read, full to bursting with drama and laughter, this is a story not to be missed, it is fabulous!
