The Elder

It may only be early February but this is my favourite book of the year so far and I don’t think it is going to move much as we slide towards December, this had everything and I do mean everything that you could possibly want and I was totally smitten.

The story centres on around Arabella Matthews and Benton King and believe me there is nowhere you need to be…just settle yourself in and let them keep you company, because if you are anything like me, you won’t be able to tear yourself away.

Benton is the son of Randall King, eminent man in the city of Azalea and the powerhouse behind the company Kings and Mills. The story kicks off with the with the Randall’s death, or should I say his murder.
The story is the total package, from the time when Benton and his brother Porter find their fathers body to the time when the story reaches it magnificent conclusion.

Feisty, single mom Arabella is the detective tasked with solving Randall Kings murder but she has her work cut out for her because not only are the circumstances a mystery that is going to take everything she has to unravel but she is also facing the wall that is Benton King.

Of course, he wants his father’s killer brought to justice but he is also mindful of the fact that the rest of the King family are left behind and he doesn’t want anything to tarnish the family’s name or reputation…but could he have both? Or was the devil in the detail?

I liked the fact that there was genuinely nothing in common between Arabella and Benton, they had zero that they could bond over or discuss other than Randall King but that didn’t mean that there wasn’t a spark of something more basic between the two of them, something that didn’t want to play by the rules and that didn’t want to remain in the background. The attraction between them kept me flipping through the pages, the mystery of the murder was so prominent but it was the personal connections that simmered along that I found my attention drawn to the most.

A fantastic story, it covered all bases and hit the mark every single step of the way, totally and utterly fabulous!
