Pulled by a Dream

Emily Darrow was a strong woman, able to able to take control and stand her own ground. Her self-assured nature was a welcome inclusion into a story that warmed my soul. Emily brought all she had to the page and didn’t shy away from facing life head-on, she stood by her decisions and ran with what life delivered to her plate…be that good or bad.
I admire the author for delivering a woman with conviction, the sort of well-rounded honest character that any mother in real life would hope her daughter would grow up to be like.
But as you would expect from the genre there has to be somebody else in the storyline and typically that person is going to be the hero of the show…not in this case because refreshingly Emily didn’t need a hero but that didn’t mean, that she didn’t want a man… BUT did she want Jake Matthews and everything that being in a relationship brought with him?
Whilst I thought the two of them had a lot in common, I was glad that the author gave their connection a ways to go, she drip fed them to each other somewhat in a way that only served to develop the intensity of what they could possibly have if they ran with the feelings that they were both experiencing.
There were misunderstandings that threatened to skew their possibilities and conclusions that weren’t only jumped on, they were completely devoured…patience is a virtue that neither had much use for. But despite that, there was a connection that refused to lay down and die…no matter how much they may have initially thought that is what they wanted, they were under each others skin, their connection was more than an itch to be scratched, it was relentless, it rode out the fact that at times it appeared as if they could barely stand the sight of each other. The fine line between love and hate was stretched to its absolute limit with this pair…and while what they had never really got as far as being real distaste…what they had definitely tickled around the edges of genuine mistrust.
I was rooting for the two of them from fairly early on, although at times I wasn’t actually sure why. The author put a lot of effort into the development of the characters and believe me it shows, this was a no holds barred beaut!
With some gloriously descriptive locations and a cast of secondary characters that each added more than their own tuppence worth to the situation, this was a generous story, the author spoils us with not only the quality of the work but also the depth of sensitivity that she imparts.
Beautifully written, this is an author that I may not have read before but that I would certainly read again.
